Makaibari is located at Kurseong, Darjeeling in West Bengal ,India.Kurseong is also known as the land of the white orchid. It is the world's first tea factory in 1859. Rajah Banerjee, the fourth generational owner has coalesced the ethnic diversity of the seven Makibari villages, to a harmonius entity by holistic sustainable practices.

Makaibari has maintained a sustainable human environment. In 1994 a Joint Body was instituted by the Makaibari tea estate to regulate the activity of the seven villages and also take up developmental work.
